A few days ago, the halls of Benbrook High School looked a little different.
Students lined the walkways, teachers stepped outside classrooms, and the community gathered to send off the school’s regional track qualifiers and state golf qualifiers with cheers, applause, and plenty of Bobcat pride before the athletes headed west to Lubbock.
Now, the competition is underway, and several Bobcats are still in the hunt for a trip to state.
Friday brought cool temperatures and a long day at the regional track meet, but the Benbrook boys’ 4×200-meter relay team kept its season alive.

The relay squad of Jayden Deane, Evan Kramer, Jayden Hall, and Quentin Thomas advanced through preliminaries and into Saturday’s finals, officially placing themselves among the eight fastest teams in the region with a chance to qualify for state.
Distance runner Owen Atkins is also making his regional appearance count after qualifying in the 1600-meter run with a personal-record performance.
On the girls’ side, Samantha Lindsey turned in one of the strongest performances of the day.

Lindsey advanced to the regional finals in the 400 meters with a new personal record time of 57.98, giving her the second-fastest qualifying time heading into Saturday’s finals.
Lindsey is also part of the Lady Bobcats’ 4×200-meter relay team, which was still awaiting final results.
For now, Bobcat Nation waits, watches, and cheers from home as another group of Benbrook athletes pushes one step closer to the state stage.
