Competing at the state level takes more than talent. It takes grit, discipline, and the courage to line up against the fastest swimmers in Texas.
After qualifying at regionals, Benbrook sophomore Skylar Sosropartono did exactly that at the 2026 UIL 4A State Swim Meet held February 12 and 13, turning in a poised performance across two demanding events.

In the girls 100 yard butterfly prelims, Skylar placed 15th with a 1:05.60, just off her 1:04.71 seed time. She advanced to the finals and returned even sharper, swimming a 1:04.76 with a 29.65 opening split and a 35.11 finish. The time drop secured her 15th overall and showed her ability to adjust and respond on the sport’s biggest stage.
Skylar also competed in the girls 100 yard backstroke, finishing 11th in prelims at 1:05.42 to earn another finals swim. In the final, she placed 12th with a 1:06.12, splitting 31.76 on the first 50 and closing in 34.36 against some of the top competition in the state.
Here’s a glance at Skylar competing in the butterfly finals:
The fastest prelim times in those events were turned in by Claire York of Grapevine High in the butterfly at 58.40 and Madeline Griffeth of Grapevine High in the backstroke at 55.34, underscoring the elite field Skylar faced.
For Benbrook, Skylar’s state performance reflects more than race results. It highlights the early mornings, long practices, and steady work that rarely make headlines. And as a sophomore, she leaves Austin with momentum and room to grow.
