With August practices just around the corner and triple-digit temperatures settling into Texas, student safety is taking center stage.
Beginning August 1, schools across the state will implement mandatory UIL Heat Protocols and Procedures for all outdoor athletic practices and marching band activities. Schools will use Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) readings to monitor heat and humidity, helping coaches and directors determine when activity levels should be adjusted to reduce the risk of heat-related illness.
The annual protocols are designed to protect student-athletes and marching band members during one of the hottest times of the year.
A big thank you goes to the coaches, directors, athletic trainers, and administrators who work every day to keep students safe while preparing for the season ahead.
