Bobcats Fall to Southwest, Turn Focus to Krum in Playoffs.

Southwest High School was standing room only Tuesday night as the Benbrook Bobcats closed out district play against a red-hot Raiders team chasing history.

Southwest entered the game as the first back-to-back district champions since 1972. The only question left was whether they would finish a perfect 12-0 in district or if Benbrook would spoil the celebration.

The Bobcats came out swinging. Brennan Barton scored the first bucket, and the opening quarter felt like a prize fight.

Both teams pressed, switched defenses, and traded shots. Tensions flared late in the first, with technical fouls assessed to both sides. Southwest led 14-11 after one.

In the second quarter, foul trouble forced Benbrook to turn to its bench. Starter Maddox Thompson and reserve Jaxyn Donart delivered timely baskets to keep things within reach, but the Raiders consistently broke pressure for easy looks. Southwest led 29-19 at halftime.

The third quarter proved decisive. Benbrook generated open shots but could not get them to fall.

Jayden Hall (#23) drives baseline during the Tuesday night matchup between Benbrook and Southwest.

Jayden Hall and Thompson added points at the line, and Dorien Johnson brought energy off the bench, yet Southwest steadily built its lead to 44-28 heading into the fourth.

Barton sparked hope with eight quick points early in the final period, trimming the margin and giving the Bobcats life.

But Southwest answered, and a late dunk by standout sophomore King Taylor ignited the home crowd and sealed the perfect district run. The Raiders closed it out from the free throw line.

Barton led scoring with 12 followed by Hall with 8 points, and the bench providing the rest. The Bobcats finish the regular season 20-13 overall, 8-4 in district, good for third place. The focus now shifts to the postseason.

The Bobcats will face Krum in the bi-district round on Monday, February 23 at 6 p.m. at Keller Central High School, 9450 Ray White Road in Keller. Krum enters the matchup 28-5 overall, a perfect 14-0 in district, and riding a 17 game winning streak.

For Bobcat fans planning to travel, the theme is blackout. Benbrook will need a strong showing in the stands as much as on the court.

With the regular season is over, the real test starts now for a deep run into the playoffs.
