What started as a slow, uneasy opening turned into one of the most memorable nights of the season for the Benbrook Bobcats.
Coming off a tough district loss, the Bobcats needed a response Tuesday night against the Diamond Hill-Jarvis Eagles. They got it, and then some.
The opening minutes were shaky, with missed shots and cold hands out of the gate. That changed quickly once Brennan Barton found his rhythm. From there, the night tilted hard in Benbrook’s favor.

Barton attacked the lane, hit from deep, and set the tone early. With Maddox Thompson knocking down a corner three and Jayden Bradshaw controlling the paint, the Bobcats surged to a 24-8 first-quarter lead, behind Barton’s 17 points.
Jarvis adjusted in the second quarter and slowed the pace, but Benbrook stayed steady. Dorien Johnson and Bradshaw added timely buckets, while Bradshaw anchored the defense with a series of emphatic blocks that made every trip to the rim for the Eagles uncomfortable. By halftime, the Bobcats held a firm 35-20 lead.
Any questions about a post-halftime lull were answered quickly. Barton stayed aggressive, DeShawn Deane chipped in key scores, and Jayden Hall broke through with an and-one to help stretch the lead. The Bobcats closed the third quarter up 54-32 and never looked back.
The fourth quarter had its share of highlights, but one moment sealed the night. After missing earlier dunk attempts, Bradshaw finally threw down a fast-break dunk that brought the gym to life and capped off a triple-double performance—scoring, rebounding, and blocking shots. Barton added a final three and a bucket, finishing with 39 points to set a new single-game scoring mark in program history.
Barton and Bradshaw combined for 51 of Benbrook’s 72 points as the Bobcats rolled to a statement win. The victory moves Benbrook to 16-10 overall, 4-1 in district play, and firmly into third place in the standings.
Next up is a serious test, though. The Bobcats host the red-hot Southwest Raiders this Friday at 7:30 pm, weather permitting. Southwest enters on an eight-game winning streak and sits undefeated in district play.
Momentum is building. And again, if there’s no wintry mix, Friday night will show just how far this Bobcat team can go.
