After a week away from the court, the Benbrook Bobcats showed they did not lose their edge.
Coming off a hard-fought win over Eastern Hills, the Bobcats opened district play against the Carter Riverside Eagles with a slow start. That did not last long.
Once they settled in, Benbrook took control late in the first quarter and never looked back, building a 10-point lead by the end of the opening period.
The second quarter flipped the game entirely. Benbrook locked in defensively, allowing just one basket, while the offense caught fire.
A 15-2 run forced a timeout, sparked by a fast break dunk from Jayden Bradshaw and a big response from Cael Denson, who poured in nine points in the quarter. By halftime, the Bobcats led 36-4.

The pace stayed the same after the break. Carter Riverside continued to compete and found the basket more often, but Benbrook answered every time. Brennan Barton found his rhythm in the third quarter, pushing the lead to 55-8.
Both teams kept playing hard in the fourth, with the Eagles showing grit and Benbrook finishing strong to secure a 73-25 district win.
Barton led all scorers with 20 points, followed by Denson with 16 and Bradshaw with 10. Contributions from the bench rounded out another complete team effort.
The Bobcats now sit at 15-9 overall, 3-0 in district play, and are currently second in the standings. Benbrook varsity squad returns to the court Friday night to match up against the Dunbar Wildcats at Billingsley Field House. The sub varsity game will be played at Dunbar High on Saturday morning.
