Cougar Hoops Continue District Play with Statement Win.

Western Hills Cougars boys basketball team wasted no time turning the page on the new year.

After closing out 2025 with a loss to Mineral Wells, the Cougars returned to the court Tuesday night to continue district play against Carter Riverside and delivered one of their most complete performances of the season.

Despite entering the game at 4-13 on the season, the Cougars came out sharp and aggressive. The Cougars ripped off an 11 to 0 run to start the night and held Carter Riverside scoreless until the four minute mark of the first quarter. By the end of the opening period, the Cougars had built a commanding 17 to 5 lead.

The second quarter was more of the same. The Cougars locked in defensively, allowing just two points while continuing to score with confidence. The halftime score told the story, with Cougars firmly in control at 29 to 7.

Any hope of a Carter Riverside comeback faded quickly in the third. The Cougars allowed only four points while stretching the lead even further. When the quarter ended, the Cougars were ahead 46 to 11 and clearly in control.

The fourth quarter brought a slight easing of defensive pressure, but the outcome was never in doubt. Carter Riverside managed ten points, yet the Cougars closed the night with a decisive 58 to 21 victory.

The win moves Cougars to 5-13 overall and 1-1 in district play. The Cougars now hit the road Friday night for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against the Dunbar Wildcats as they look to build on the momentum and keep climbing in district action.
