The Benbrook Bobcats answered a big question Friday night at Benbrook Middle High School. After cruising past Western Hills the night before, could they win a close one against a tough, motivated opponent?
The answer came after four quarters of pressure, poise, and resolve.
Facing the Eastern Hills Highlanders, the Bobcats battled early nerves, including an 0 for 4 start at the free throw line, and trailed 11-8 after the first quarter. Once settled, the offense began to flow behind Brennan Barton, who took control early and never let go.
Barton led all scorers with 32 points on the night, pouring in 19 before halftime. He was supported by Jayden Hall, who added 12 points, and Will Cook, who was perfect from beyond the arc, hitting all three of his three-point attempts for nine points. The rest of the scoring came from a balanced team effort that kept Eastern Hills from keying on any one option.
That surge pushed Benbrook ahead 24-22 at the break and energized a packed home crowd.
Rather than fading after halftime, the Bobcats came out sharp on both ends. Eastern Hills matched them bucket for bucket in the third quarter, but hustle plays from Deshawn Deane and timely shooting from Cook helped Benbrook carry a 36-32 lead into the final period.

The fourth quarter turned into a series of runs and momentum swings. Barton and Hall continued to apply pressure, while the Highlanders refused to go away. Down the stretch, Benbrook stayed composed and executed just enough to secure a hard-fought 60-57 win.
The victory marked the Bobcats’ sixth district win and improved their overall record to 18-11, 6-2 in district play, and they currently sit second in the standings.
Benbrook will look to carry that momentum on the road Friday night when the Bobcats face the Carter Riverside Eagles at 6:30 pm.
