Tension is rising in Benbrook as residents voice concerns about city leadership, growth, and transparency ahead of the upcoming election.
Longtime resident Donna Clem recently sparked a conversation with a post questioning what progress has been made under the current Benbrook City Council.
She cited flooding, overdevelopment, and communication gaps with residents as signs that leadership has fallen out of touch. Her comments struck a chord, prompting a wave of responses from both supporters and critics across social media.
Some residents defended the council’s record, pointing to efforts to attract new businesses and generate tax revenue, while others echoed Clem’s frustrations over transparency and accountability.
The debate has also drawn attention to challengers Ryan Reagan, Sean Moore, and Derrick Varnell, who have been vocal about responsible development and protecting neighborhoods from future flooding issues.
Their supporters say the current leadership’s approach to planning and zoning has leaned too heavily in one direction, leaving little room for resident input. Opponents argue that the challengers lack the experience to navigate the city’s complex development challenges.
Despite the sharp exchanges, many residents agree on one thing: they want thoughtful, balanced growth that benefits the community without sacrificing its character.
The race for Benbrook’s future is now about more than political seats—it’s about trust, accountability, and the kind of city residents want to build together.
