Residents Push City for Transparency and Accountability.

Benbrook residents continue to press city leaders on flooding and development concerns, and recent meetings show just how much is at stake for neighborhoods like Trinity Estates and Timberline.

Sean Moore, candidate for City Council Place 5, shared key takeaways from a discussion with city officials led by Greg Clem.

Among the most significant points were calls for transparency in geotechnical and bedrock reports, closer oversight of developers like Sandlin Homes, and stronger ordinances to protect residents from future flood risks and dust control failures.

While city representatives noted that flood standards technically meet fire department requirements, residents voiced frustration that one drainage failure, like a blocked trashcan lid, could put homes at risk.

Concerns extend beyond new construction. A longtime Benbrook family raised alarms about an incomplete 32-foot storm drain easement along Sirocka Court that has caused erosion and flooding on private property.

Despite the issue stemming from city infrastructure, the city engineer allegedly shifted responsibility onto homeowners, further fueling frustration.

The message from residents is clear: the city must do more to ensure current neighborhoods are protected before expanding into vulnerable floodplain zones.

With elections approaching, candidates like Moore and Derrick Varnell are pushing for stronger ordinances and greater accountability. In the meantime, residents are being urged to stay vocal, document issues, and press the city for immediate action.
