Turns out elementary students can move pretty fast with a stack of cups in front of them.
Students from Rolling Hills Elementary School and Luella Merrett Elementary School recently came together for their first-ever Cup Stacking Tournament, combining speed, focus, coordination, and friendly competition into a surprisingly intense event.
The idea came from teachers Andrea Sandoval and Latae Mendoza after attending a state convention. Both had already introduced cup stacking activities in their classes, but the tournament gave students a chance to showcase their skills in a competitive setting.
Students competed in several categories, including the 3-3-3 stack, 3-6-3 stack, and cycle competitions across multiple grade levels.
Among the top finishers were Isabella Klas, Eleri Havlik, Genesis Osornio, Bradley Trujillo, Jerico Dennis, Eli Kubista, Lucy Sandoval, Reid Flusche, Isko Balandran, Jubilee Angel, Korbin Blackmon, and John Havlik.
The event may have looked simple from the outside, but teachers say cup stacking helps students build hand-eye coordination, concentration, timing, and confidence while keeping learning active and fun.
Judging by the excitement surrounding the first tournament, this may not be the last time these schools stack cups head-to-head.
