What started as a normal drive through Benbrook took a wild turn near the intersection of Winscott and Mercedes.
Around rush hour, an 18-wheeler turning left from Mercedes onto Winscott clipped an overhead utility cable and brought it crashing down—right into traffic.
The line bounced off one car, stretched across the hood of another, and landed squarely across the road in front of Wells Fargo. Witnesses said it was a chaotic moment, especially considering how busy that intersection typically gets. Drivers were left at a standstill as crews worked to secure the area and redirect traffic.
Interestingly, residents recalled that new cables were just installed at that corner a few days prior—during a thunderstorm, no less. It has people wondering whether the storm interfered with how high the lines were secured.
The scene got even more tense when it was revealed that the truck snagged the line while pulling out of the church parking lot behind the Shell station and Funky Town Freeze snow cone stand. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but it was definitely a scare for everyone nearby.
As of late this evening, utility crews and law enforcement remained on-site to make repairs and get traffic flowing again. This is still an active situation, so if you’re headed that way, expect delays and consider taking an alternate route.
We’ll share updates as more details come in.
