Benbrook Traffic: Trick or Treat?

A subscriber’s opinion…

The traffic and construction in Benbrook have been known to give some migraines, the urge to sip on a tasty beverage, or just a good excuse for some good old friendly road rage (because Southern hospitality is alive and well here in Benbrook). Some look at the glass half full or half empty. I prefer to look at Benbrook traffic with a glass-one-fourth-full kind of mentality. Let’s look at the bright side of an otherwise horrendous situation:

  1. Who wouldn’t want to be held hostage by three screaming cherubs in the back seat of a minivan as you make a slow crawl by Chick-fil-A in rush hour traffic? It’s enough to push even the kindest soul over the brink of insanity. Multiply that by 45 minutes, and well … one man, or mama, may be left standing when it is all said and done.
  2. What could be more relaxing than a ride home from a stressful day at work, Renee Fleming on deck, your seat cooler at full blast? Life is good. And then you hit Benbrook (dramatic sound effect) and are stuck in the same spot for FOREVER? Whoever thought the left turn only lane at Mercedes and 377 South probably lives a 30-second walk from their day job.
  3. I love some good fried chicken but would rather sit and smell the roses. Not the mingling twang of fast food fried chicken, gas, and grease, and the palpable grit of road dust flossing my teeth on the way home from work.
  4. Coffee is life. Whoever comes between me and my morning coffee becomes my lifetime arch-nemesis. When Google Maps told me it would take three days by bus to get my morning cup of joe, Well, that ain’t right.
  5. Benbrook traffic, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Zero, negative one, negative two, … negative two hundred and thirty-six.
