With temperatures climbing well above 100 degrees Monday afternoon, firefighters spent more than four hours battling a roughly 20-acre grass and brush fire on Fort Worth’s far west side.
The Fort Worth Fire Department called for an aggressive two-alarm brush response as smoke rose from the area. Crews attacked the fire with hand tools and hose lines while positioning an aerial truck to help protect nearby homes and structures.
Even after crews brought the fire under control, they remained on scene to extinguish hot spots. The extreme heat added another challenge, requiring firefighters to rotate through breaks for water, shade, and cooling before returning to the fire line.
Benbrook firefighters joined the response alongside crews from the Lake Worth Fire Department and Tarrant County ESD, providing additional firefighters and equipment.
No injuries were reported.
