Cresson Firefighters Continue Fight Against Ross Fire.

For days, firefighters from nearby communities have rotated crews, swapped trucks, and grabbed sleep when they can as the massive Ross Fire continues burning west of the Metroplex.

Among them is the Cresson Volunteer Fire Department, which has kept an apparatus at the fire nearly continuously since Monday, aside from a brief period to swap trucks.

By Wednesday morning, the department’s current crew had received only a four- to five-hour rest break before returning to the fire line. They were later working south of Bryson in Jack County.

The Ross Fire has grown to approximately 83,000 acres, sending smoke and haze east into communities including Benbrook.

The scene shared by the department captures the scale of the response, with a Cresson tanker on the ground as an aircraft works through thick smoke overhead.
