Quick Response Stops Grass Fire Near Highway 377.

A fast-moving grass fire came dangerously close to wooden pallets and a propane tank Friday evening before firefighters brought it under control.

The Cresson Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched around 7:30 p.m. to the fire along Highway 377. Crews reported arriving 4 minutes and 51 seconds later to find flames reaching about 10 feet high and moving toward stacks of wooden pallets.

Within 12 minutes, responding crews had the fire under control. Cresson deployed four brush trucks, two tankers, a rescue truck and a rehab truck, with Tarrant County ESD 1 also responding.

The flames came within about 10 feet of the pallet stacks and a propane tank. Firefighters used roughly 8,000 gallons of water on the tall grass and surrounding area to reduce the chance of the fire reigniting.

For crews on the scene, it was a close call that could have become much more serious had the flames reached the nearby materials.
