Traffic came to a complete stop just after 6 p.m. Wednesday along 820 southbound west of downtown Fort Worth and Weatherford exits after a multi-vehicle crash shut down all lanes.
Drivers reported seeing a highway message board warning them to seek an alternate route as emergency crews rushed to the scene.
Residents in the area described fire trucks, several tow trucks, ambulances, and police units arriving one after another. Many noted that traffic had been moving normally until the full response arrived and the highway was secured. Once the ambulances cleared and the damaged vehicles were loaded, traffic slowly began to flow again.
Witnesses said multiple vehicles were scattered across the roadway, pointing in different directions. Others nearby reported hearing and seeing life flight helicopters overhead, adding to early concerns about the severity of the crash.
According to early information shared by those familiar with the incident, five cars were involved in the wreck, with six people triaged as โgreen,โ meaning they were breathing and had non-life-threatening injuries. Drivers watching from nearby apartments confirmed seeing emergency lights stretching across the scene. The crash appeared to be located between the Clifford Street and White Settlement Road exits.
Traffic remained heavily backed up for hours, with some drivers reporting gridlock and blaring horns well into the evening. By about 10 p.m., lanes had reopened, and traffic was moving again.
This is a developing story. More details will be shared as authorities release official information.
