Late Push Falls Short as Lady Cougars Drop Road Game at Dunbar.

Tuesday night brought another hard-fought effort from the Western Hills Lady Cougars, who hit the road looking to even the score against the Dunbar Lady Wildcats after a narrow loss earlier this season.

The Lady Cougars opened the game with energy and briefly caught Dunbar off balance, but ongoing struggles against defensive pressure crept back in. A string of turnovers allowed the Lady Wildcats to pull ahead 15-6 by the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Cougars responded in the second quarter with better ball movement and composure, outscoring Dunbar 10-6 and cutting the deficit to five heading into halftime at 21-16.

After the break, Dunbar adjusted defensively, mixing pressure looks and zone coverage that disrupted Western Hills rhythm. The result was another wave of turnovers that turned into fast break points, pushing the Lady Wildcats lead to 35-20 by the end of the third quarter.

Western Hills did not fold. The Lady Cougars won the fourth quarter 6-2 and showed grit down the stretch, but the comeback fell short in a 37-26 loss.

Western Hills now stands at 2-19 overall and 1-8 in district play, currently sixth in the standings. The Lady Cougars return home Friday night to host the Diamond Hill-Jarvis Lady Eagles at 6:00 p.m., aiming to flip the script after a 38-26 loss in their previous meeting.
