Bobcats Golf Face Tough Start at Regionals, Look Ahead to Round 2.

LUBBOCK, Texas — The first round of the UIL Region 1-4A boys golf tournament did not go the way Benbrook had hoped. But if there is one thing this group has shown all season, it is the ability to reset and respond.

Competing against some of the top programs in the region, the Bobcats’ first squad finished Day 1 in 11th place with a team score of 365 (+77). The Bobcats’ second squad came in 13th at 423 (+135).

It was a challenging day across the board, but there were still steady performances that gave the Bobcats something to build on heading into Round 2.

For the first team, Seth James (SO) and Brady Peloquin (JR) led the way, each carding a 93 (+21). Jaxyn Donart (SO) followed closely with a 90 (+18), while Asher Rotman (SO) posted an 89 (+17), the team’s low round of the day. Karsten Wanzor (FR) rounded out the group with a 99 (+27).

On the second team, Pierce Battle (SR) opened with a 93 (+21), while Brennan Barton (SR) added a 102 (+30). Nash Brannon (JR) finished at 119 (+47), Tres Adams (SO) shot a 109 (+37), and Will Petty (SO) closed with a 120 (+48).

The leaderboard is led by Andrews Gold at 282 (-6), setting a strong pace early in the tournament. Still, for the Bobcats, the focus now shifts from standings to response.

Regionals are not won in one round, but they can be reshaped in the next.

For a team that has battled through the season to get here, Round 2 brings a fresh opportunity to settle in, clean up mistakes, and play the kind of golf they know they are capable of.
