Ten weeks of high school football are in the books, and the Benbrook Bobcats are headed back to the postseason!
The Bobcats closed out their regular season Thursday night with a 30-7 victory over the Dunbar Wildcats at Handley Stadium, finishing 7-3 overall and 5-2 in District 5-4A Division I. The win secured the Bobcats’ fourth consecutive playoff appearance and seventh in the program’s 11-year history.
While Dunbar (1-9) celebrated Senior Night, Benbrook wasted little time getting to work.
Quarterback Lucas Davis connected with Evan Smith on a 26-yard touchdown pass to cap the Bobcats’ opening drive.
Moments later, Austin Cross recovered a Dunbar fumble, setting up another scoring opportunity.

Running back Quentin Thomas, returning from a high ankle sprain, helped move the ball downfield before Davis found Dorien Johnson for a 19-yard touchdown. Just like that, Benbrook led 14-0.
Dunbar answered late in the first quarter with an 80-yard touchdown run, cutting the lead to 14-7. But Benbrook responded just 40 seconds into the second quarter when Davis connected with Johnson again, this time for an 11-yard score.
The Bobcats carried a 21-7 advantage into halftime.
The second half belonged largely to the defenses, with penalties, fumbles, and stalled drives keeping both offenses from finding much rhythm.
Benbrook added a third-quarter safety before Brayden King recovered a Wildcats fumble and returned it for a touchdown, extending the lead to 30-7.
A late interception by Athan Felker helped seal the victory.
Davis finished 19-of-38 passing for 231 yards and three touchdowns, while Johnson hauled in 10 receptions for 127 yards and two scores. Thomas added 128 rushing yards on 15 carries.
Benbrook totaled 406 yards of offense, including 175 on the ground, while holding Dunbar to 151 yards. The Wildcats also went 0-for-10 on third down and committed five turnovers, including three fumbles and two interceptions.
The victory also brought Benbrook’s regular-season record in line with the 7-3 preseason prediction from Gossett41 High School Sports, although the Bobcats reached that mark with different results than projected against Castleberry and Southwest.
More importantly, Benbrook has plenty left to play for.
After moving up to Class 4A Division I this season, the Bobcats have secured another postseason opportunity. Their first-round opponent has yet to be determined.
For a team entering the season with a new classification and plenty to prove, a 7-3 finish and another playoff berth make for a pretty good start.
