The final classroom cleanout of the school year carried a little more emotion than usual at Western Hills High School.
As teachers and staff packed boxes and cleared out rooms, students and volunteers reflected on a year marked by major changes, including retirements and several educators’ departures from the district. Among those departing are two young alumni coaches who each led their teams to the playoffs this year.
Supporters say the campus will feel noticeably different next fall.
Wanting to show appreciation in a meaningful way, volunteers put together a large charcuterie board filled with snacks to help staff get through their final day on campus.
For many connected to the school, the gesture was about more than food. It was a small way to remind teachers and staff how much they are valued by the students, families, and volunteers who have watched them pour time and energy into the Cougar community.
And while classrooms may be emptying for summer, many at Western Hills hope the educators moving on leave know their impact will not be forgotten anytime soon.
