Lady Cougars Powerlifting Season Ends with Strong Regional Finish.

The Western Hills girls powerlifting team wrapped up its season at the regional meet after a year marked by steady improvement and strong competition.

Amali Angeles and Annabelle Rivas each earned sixth place in their respective weight classes at the regional meet. Both athletes qualified by finishing among the top twelve lifters in North Texas, competing in a field that included schools from Class 1A through 6A in the unequipped division. In many weight classes, nearly one hundred athletes were vying for those top twelve spots.

Angeles competed in the 181 pound weight class and finished the meet with a 235 pound squat, a 130 pound bench press, and a 270 pound deadlift for a combined total of 635 pounds. The regional appearance marks her second straight year competing at that level.

Rivas reached regionals for the first time in her career and showed significant progress throughout the season. She finished with a 240 pound squat, a 100 pound bench press, and a 265 pound deadlift for a total of 605 pounds. Her overall lifting total improved by more than 200 pounds during the year.

The season also highlighted the role of community support. Travel and competition opportunities were made possible in part through help from Cougar Pride Alliance and local volunteers who supported the program throughout the year.

The Western Hills powerlifting season is not finished just yet. The boys team will send seven lifters to compete in Decatur on March 13, hoping to build on the momentum created by the girls team this season.
