Western Hills Powerlifters Have Monster Season.

•

The Fort Worth Western Hills Cougars powerlifting season wrapped up with impressive performances from both the boys’ and girls’ teams, proving they are among the strongest in Texas.

On the girls’ side, three lifters advanced to regionals, with two earning medals at the state meet in Edinburg. Senior Abby Moilan, the Region 6 champion, finished third at state with an 850-pound total, including a 340-pound squat, 150-pound bench, and 365-pound deadlift. She nearly set a state record with a 395-pound deadlift attempt. Competing at state all four years, this was her toughest battle yet, and she held her own among Texas’ best.

Kateline Reygadas, another Region 6 champion, took second place at state, just five pounds shy of the top spot. In her first full year of powerlifting, she dominated every meet, posting a season-best 285-pound squat, 135-pound bench, and 285-pound deadlift for a 705-pound total.

On the boys’ team, Kevin Cruz overcame a torn MCL to place third at regionals, qualifying him for state, where he finished 10th overall. His 650-pound squat, 435-pound bench, and 550-pound deadlift totaled 1,635 pounds in one of the toughest meets in Abilene.

The Cougars showcased incredible grit and determination this season, exceeding expectations and making their mark at the highest levels. A special thanks goes to the Cougar Pride Foundation, Coach Blake Moilan, and all donors who made the regional and state trips possible.
