Benbrook residents woke up Monday morning to a mess left behind by a fierce round of storms that rolled through late Sunday night.
Heavy rain and high winds ripped through the area, particularly affecting parts of the Ventana community. Reports of wind gusts reaching up to 100 miles per hour turned a quiet night into one full of tornado sirens, flying trampolines, scattered shingles, and knocked-over trees.
Some families in Ventana found their backyards full of debris, including trampolines that traveled farther than their original owners probably intended. Shingles littered Ventana Parkway, and many homeowners noticed damage to roofs, windows, and sliding glass doors. One resident described water flooding their living room after high winds pushed through what appeared to be improperly sealed windows. Several Perry Homes homeowners expressed frustration over long-standing leak issues that resurfaced during the storm.
Power outages were scattered across town, but the cleanup is what caught most people’s attention Monday. Leaning trees, ripped-up landscaping, and downed branches became the unexpected theme of the week. Some lost beloved trees entirely. Yet in one backyard, a mama dove sat calmly on her nest in the remains of what used to be a five-year-old tree—her small act of resilience offering a quiet moment of beauty in the middle of the chaos.
If you’re dealing with roof or window damage, now’s the time to get those builders and contractors back on the line. And for tree removal, several neighbors are already swapping recommendations.
Stay safe, Benbrook. There’s no doubt this one will be remembered.
