First Day Back to School Brings Traffic Gridlock to South Benbrook.

School is back, and so is a familiar headache for families on Benbrook’s fast-growing south side: traffic.

The first day of school brought bumper-to-bumper backups along Jerry Dunn Parkway as parents headed toward Rolling Hills Elementary, Westpark Elementary and Benbrook Middle-High School. School buses were caught in the same slow-moving line.

The afternoon congestion is especially noticeable near US 377 and RM 2871, where traffic from Whitestone, Skyline Ranch, Ventana and surrounding neighborhoods funnels toward local schools.

The backup also puts renewed attention on how continued residential development will affect the area’s roads. Discovery Land Company and PMB Capital Investments are developing Maverick Golf & Ranch Club nearby, adding another major project to an area of Benbrook already experiencing significant growth.

Whatever the long-term answer may be, Monday morning and afternoon offered a pretty clear picture of the problem. As more families are calling south Benbrook and Fort Worth home, yet many still rely on the same roads to get where they need to go.
