High school sports conversations around Benbrook just got louder.
Per X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook, The University Interscholastic League has released its updated reclassification and realignment numbers for the 2026 to 2028 seasons. While much of Fort Worth ISD remains steady, a few enrollment shifts are creating meaningful changes in the field.
The most significant local development is in football. Due to sharp enrollment declines, Diamond Hill Jarvis and Western Hills will move from 4A Division I down to 4A Division II. That places both programs in the same division as Benbrook Middle High School and Dunbar, reshaping competitive balance across the district.
Enrollment numbers drive everything in UIL alignment, and the data shows why the shift happened. Diamond Hill Jarvis and Western Hills have both fallen well below the upper 4A cutoff, leaving little choice but to move down.
For Benbrook, this means more familiar Fort Worth schools in the mix and fewer mismatches tied strictly to size.
Not everyone agrees on what comes next. Some coaches and fans argue that opting up or creating districts made up entirely of Fort Worth schools could improve playoff access and help build fan bases and school pride. Others worry that forcing schools to play up a division puts athletes at a disadvantage and limits long-term development.
What is clear is that enrollment trends are now shaping football futures just as much as wins and losses. With growth continuing in pockets around Benbrook and declines elsewhere, future realignment cycles could bring even more changes.
For those who want to dig deeper into the numbers, UIL conference cutoffs and enrollment data are available on the UIL website at https://www.uiltexas.org.
As always, how these shifts play out will be decided on Friday nights, where realignment stops being a spreadsheet and starts being about kids, competition, and community pride.
