BENBROOK, TX — Anyone who drives along RM 2871 knows the feeling. You are on your way to work or school, and suddenly everything stops. A train crosses Aledo Road, and what should be a quick trip turns into an unpredictable delay.
That daily frustration is now turning into renewed community momentum.
Residents are once again raising concerns about congestion along RM 2871, especially near the railroad crossing, where delays can exceed 10 minutes and disrupt already tight morning schedules.
The question being asked more often now is simple. What can actually be done?
The answer may lie in a project that has been on the radar for years. Plans to expand and improve RM 2871 have remained in the planning phase, but there is growing belief that with enough public input, the project could be reconsidered for the 2026 Bond Program. If that happens, construction could begin as early as 2027.
Community members are encouraged to take action by learning more about the project, sharing information with neighbors, and contacting decision-makers. Outreach to TxDOT at 817-370-6500 is one starting point, along with reaching out to state representatives who play a role in funding decisions.
While train schedules and track locations are unlikely to change, long-term infrastructure improvements could ease congestion and make travel more reliable across the area.
For those wanting to understand the project in more detail or participate in ongoing discussions, a virtual public meeting is available at https://share.google/2DC9QWW1hbO4fyd85.
Remember, real progress will come as more people speak up and stay involved. Let our voices be heard.
