The BUFF Is Back Over Fort Worth Skies.

Few aircraft turn heads quite like a B-52.

Residents near Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth got a rare sight last week as a B-52 Stratofortress made its final approach into the installation, drawing the attention of aviation enthusiasts and anyone lucky enough to look up at the right moment.

Known affectionately as the “BUFF,” short for “Big Ugly Fat Fellow,” the iconic bomber has been a cornerstone of American airpower for more than seven decades. First entering service in the 1950s, the aircraft remains one of the most recognizable military planes in the world.

NAS JRB Fort Worth shared video of the arrival, captured by Carl Richards, celebrating the return of the legendary aircraft to local skies.

For many longtime North Texans, the sight and sound of a B-52 overhead brings a sense of nostalgia and appreciation for the region’s deep military and aviation heritage.

Some aircraft come and go. The B-52, however, continues to prove why it remains one of the most enduring symbols of American aviation.
