What started as a call about lights and a possible refrigerator problem quickly became a race to save the food inside Western Hills’ Cougar Corner.
According to Patty Pressley with the Cougar Pride Alliance, volunteers arrived to find temperatures around 100 degrees inside. With an electrical pole needing repair or replacement, the group canceled its usual Saturday sandwich and lunch-sack preparation and began moving food before it spoiled.
Coaches, volunteers, current and former students stepped in to help. Western Hills Church of Christ provided freezer space for frozen goods, while snacks were moved to the JROTC room. Pressley also thanked Frankie Smith and Susan Bowers for helping the group navigate the unexpected situation.
“We would have lost all of that food had it not been for the support of all of these people,” Pressley said.
Until the electrical problem is repaired, Cougar Pride Alliance will work from different locations to continue feeding Western Hills students.
