Tarrant County Warns Residents About Phone Scam Targeting Households.

The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office is urging residents to stay alert after a rise in scam calls from people pretending to be deputies.

The callers claim you missed jury duty, have an active warrant, or owe a fine, and they push for immediate payment via wire transfer, gift card, or payment apps like Zelle or Cash App.

These calls may even display real Sheriff’s Office phone numbers and use the names of actual employees, which makes them sound convincing. But the Sheriff’s Office wants residents to know they do not call people to demand money, settle fines, or resolve warrants. They also never take payments through gift cards or mobile apps.

If something feels off, slow down and verify it. Talk to a friend or family member, or do a quick online search before sending money to anyone. A few seconds of checking can protect you from losing thousands of dollars.

Anyone who receives one of these calls or believes they were targeted should report it. Residents in unincorporated Tarrant County can contact TCSO Dispatch at 817-884-1213. Local police departments can assist residents within city limits.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages everyone to pass this warning along, especially to neighbors or relatives who may not see alerts online. Keeping the community informed is one of the best ways to combat scams.
