Quick Storm Leaves Parts of Benbrook Underwater.

A fast-moving Saturday rain caught many Benbrook residents off guard on November 29, turning familiar spots into temporary water hazards.

According to the National Weather Service, the city received about 0.32 inches of rain that afternoon, while a nearby 24-hour report at Benbrook Lake measured 0.42 inches. It was not a large total on paper, but it fell quickly enough to overwhelm drains across town.

Residents shared similar stories from different neighborhoods: water rising faster than the system could handle and storm drains briefly disappearing under the flow.

One of the most visible trouble spots was the Walmart parking lot. Shoppers who waited out the downpour stepped outside to find their cars surrounded by two to three inches of standing water. Some sections climbed to 5 or 6 inches, forcing people to wait on sidewalks or improvise with plastic bags over their shoes to reach their vehicles.

The water did drain, but slowly. It was a reminder that even modest rainfall can cause sudden flooding when it hits at the wrong moment. For many in Benbrook, the short storm served as another nudge to keep an eye on drainage issues and stay prepared as winter weather approaches.
