Gyna Bivens, a longtime Fort Worth City Council member and former Mayor Pro Tem, has died at age 71. She represented District 5 from 2013 to 2025 and was widely known as a strong advocate for Southeast Fort Worth and historically underserved neighborhoods.
Bivens publicly shared in late 2025 that she was undergoing treatment for pancreatic cancer. City leaders remembered her as a focused, principled voice who approached public service with preparation, respect, and a deep commitment to opportunity and integrity.
Before serving on the City Council, Bivens worked in television journalism and later in public-sector communications. She also held leadership roles on several regional transportation and policy boards, leaving a lasting mark on Fort Worthโs civic life.
