Storm clouds were gathering across Fort Worth, but the Benbrook Lady Bobcats made sure their business on the field was finished before the rain arrived.

With several Fort Worth ISD games postponed because of severe weather, the Lady Bobcats and Western Hills Lady Cougars squeezed in their crosstown softball matchup at Western Hills High School.

Western Hills struck first in the opening inning when standout pitcher Addison Dudley singled to drive in two runs, giving the Lady Cougars an early 2-0 lead. Dudleyโ€™s fast pitching kept The Lady Bobcats quiet in the first inning, but the momentum shifted quickly in the second.

The Lady Bobcats answered with a powerful rally that changed the game. A string of hits, patient at-bats, and a few Lady Cougar miscues helped the Lady Bobcats pile on runs. By the time the inning ended, the Lady Bobcats had taken full control of the game.

The Lady Bobcats kept the pressure on in the third inning. Maelee Lindley delivered an inside-the-park home run that brought in three runs, and the Lady Bobcats continued adding to the scoreboard with aggressive base running and timely hits.

When the inning ended, the Lady Bobcats held a commanding lead that proved too much for the Lady Cougars to overcome. The Lady Bobcats closed out the game with an 18-3 victory.

Madison Canada led the way for Benbrook both in the circle and at the plate. She pitched three innings, allowing three runs while striking out five. Offensively, she added a double and scored three runs.

The Lady Bobcats finished the game with 12 hits and an impressive team batting average of .522. Lindley, Kaylee Boswell, Mya Vasquez, and Maddy Davila each contributed multiple hits, while the Lady Bobcats also stole five bases during the game.

The Lady Cougars saw solid efforts from Dudley and Vivian Hernandez, who accounted for the teamโ€™s hits, but the Lady Cougars could not recover after the Lady Bobcats’ explosive second inning.

With the win, the Lady Bobcats extend their streak to four games and improve to 9-10 overall, while sitting atop the district standings at 3-0. The Lady Cougars move to 4-6 overall and 1-1 in district play.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars will face Carter Riverside Lady Eagles, while the Lady Bobcats will host Eastern Hills Lady Highlanders as the district race continues.
