After a rocky start to the Springtown and Mineral Wells Tournament, the Lady Bobcats found their rhythm when it mattered most.
Entering their final game at 1-3 in tournament play, the Lady Bobcats took the field at Mineral Wells, determined to leave on a high note.
Behind a breakout performance from Natalya Muzquiz and steady pitching from Madison Canada, the Lady Bobcats rolled past the Dublin Lady Lions 14-3 in a run-rule win.
Muzquiz set the tone early, going three for four at the plate with two triples and a single. She and Canada helped the Lady Bobcats jump out to a quick 3-0 lead before Dublin tied the game. The Lady Bobcats’ response was immediate and decisive.
Singles from Maddy Davila, Maelee Lindley, and Kaylee Boswell fueled a big second inning, and the bats stayed hot in the third. A triple from Mya Vasquez and timely hits from Lindley and Jolie Hornbeck pushed the lead to 13-3. The Lady Bobcats closed it out in the fourth.
Canada earned the win in the circle, allowing three runs over two innings. The Lady Bobcats finished with 12 hits, six walks, and five stolen bases. Lindley drove in three runs, while Vasquez and Davila added multiple hits.
The victory gives Benbrook back-to-back wins to close the tournament and moves the Lady Bobcats to 7-10 overall. They remain 1-0 in district and currently sit second as they prepare to host Southwest on Tuesday.
It was not the start they hoped for, but the finish showed exactly the kind of fight this team plans to carry into district play.
