Fort Worth’s political landscape is set for change as District 6 Councilmember Jared Williams announced on Jan. 21 that he will not seek re-election in May 2025.
Since 2021, Williams has represented southwest Fort Worth and the historic Como neighborhood. He cites a renewed calling to serve his faith community and combat hunger as an executive with the Tarrant Area Food Bank.
Williams made history by unseating long-time incumbent Jungus Jordan in a closely contested race, part of a wave of new council members elected in 2021. His time in office has been marked by initiatives to amplify community voices through district roundtables, expand green spaces with projects like Rock Creek Ranch Park, and reduce youth gun violence through the One Second Collaborative.
Williams’ departure follows that of Mayor Pro Tem Gyna Bivens, signaling substantial turnover in Fort Worth’s leadership. The filing period for candidates to succeed Williams closes on Feb. 14.
