For many residents, it may feel like déjà vu.
The long-running debate over the proposed Rowan Ranch development is returning to City Hall on Thursday, March 12, as the Benbrook Planning and Zoning Commission prepares to review a new rezoning request tied to the project.
In previous rounds, the proposal faced strong resistance and was unanimously denied by the Benbrook City Council. Now the development team is back with a different approach, hoping a revised strategy might move the conversation forward. Whether that shift changes any minds remains to be seen.
The meeting will take place at Benbrook City Hall, 911 Winscott Road. A work session begins at 7 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
For those not in the loop or aware of what’s at stake, the public hearing centers on a request to rezone about 61 acres of land along the east side of Interstate 820 between Veterans Parkway and Chapin Road. The proposal seeks to change the zoning from a multiple-family planned development district to a one-family planned development district.
Planning and Zoning Commission meetings are often the first formal step in the city’s review process. Commissioners evaluate the request, hear public input, and then forward a recommendation to the Benbrook City Council, which ultimately decides whether a proposal moves forward.
Given the history surrounding Rowan Ranch, many residents are expected to attend and share their views as the conversation continues.
Meeting details and supporting documents are available, and residents may also attend the meeting in person to follow the discussion as the city revisits one of the most closely watched development proposals in recent years.
