Fort Worth ISD has a comprehensive plan to address potential weather-related disruptions as students prepare to return from winter break. While no announcements have been made regarding delays or cancellations, the district proactively monitors the situation.
To combat freezing temperatures—highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s—maintenance crews are weather-proofing over 200 district buildings. Precautions include overriding temperature controls to ensure schools remain warm, shutting off irrigation systems, and draining cooling towers to prevent freezing.
Fort Worth ISD evaluates school delays or closures at least 24 hours before an anticipated storm. A collaborative effort involving district leadership, operations, transportation, security, and communications aims to finalize decisions by 5 a.m. the day of. The Chief of District Operations consults with the superintendent, who makes the final call.
