Grass Fire Reported Near Benbrook as Thousands Experience Power Outage.

Smoke on the horizon and dark traffic signals caught the attention of many Benbrook residents Wednesday afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m., CrimeRadar.app reported that emergency crews from Benbrook, Fort Worth, and Tarrant County responded to a reported grass or brush fire in heavy vegetation near the Interstate 20 and U.S. 377 (Granbury exit) area on the frontage road near power plant and what was once Defender Outdoors (Aledo Road area).

At about the same time, much of the Benbrook area experienced a power outage. According to Oncor’s outage map, more than 5,000 customers were without electricity, with an initial estimated restoration time of 5 p.m. Oncor noted that restoration times could change if crews discover additional damage or repairs are needed.

At this time, it has not been confirmed whether the reported fire and the widespread power outage are related. Root cause has not been determined at this time.

Motorists are encouraged to use caution in the area and be prepared for possible traffic delays.
