Texas Christian University students are getting an unexpected snow day, even before the spring semester begins.
TCU has announced campus closures for Thursday, Jan. 9, and Friday, Jan. 10, due to an impending winter storm, according to a post on the university’s Instagram page.
What to Expect
According to an email from Sean Taylor, TCU’s director of emergency management, the closures necessitate adjustments for spring orientation and registration, ensuring that classes will still begin as planned on Monday, January 13.
“Weather can change at any time in Texas,” Taylor noted, urging students to use caution before traveling. Building on last year’s icy challenges, the university is prioritizing safety first.
Campus Services During the Closure
- Dining Halls: Closed until Saturday, Jan. 11, as previously scheduled.
- Mary Couts Burnett Library: Reopening Monday, Jan. 13.
- Brown-Lupton Health Center & Counseling Center: Closed during the campus shutdown.
Taylor emphasized that TCU’s Department of Emergency Management aims to notify the campus community of closures by 4 p.m. the day before. Fortunately, the National Weather Service forecasts warmer weather by Monday, just in time for classes to resume.
