Quick Storm Leaves Some Benbrook Neighborhoods in the Dark.

What started as a small summer storm turned into a long night for some Benbrook residents.

Around 7:14 p.m. on July 6, meteorologist Jason Cooley reported a storm over Benbrook and south Fort Worth, bringing heavy rain, frequent lightning, small hail, and gusty winds near Chisholm Trail Parkway.

The weather varied widely across town. Some residents saw only a few large raindrops and distant thunder, while others reported little or no rain at all. Several described the storm as arriving suddenly, with one resident saying lightning struck in their neighborhood after the storm “rolled in out of nowhere.”

The biggest impact came from power outages. Residents near Braum’s reported hearing a loud boom before losing electricity for more than two hours. Others remarked that it took only a small storm to knock out power.

According to Oncor, additional repairs were needed overnight, pushing the estimated restoration time to 2:30 a.m. on July 7. By 1 p.m. Tuesday, power had been restored to all affected areas.

The storm was brief, yet a reminder of how quickly North Texas weather can change.
