As a winter storm barrels toward North Texas, local governments and service providers adjust schedules to prioritize safety. The National Weather Service predicts snow, sleet, and freezing rain starting early today, with accumulations ranging from light dusting to nine inches.
Here’s how cities across Tarrant County are preparing:
Fort Worth Adjusts Trash Services.
Fort Worth is canceling yard waste collection for today and tomorrow to focus on trash and recycling pickups. These pickups are expected to proceed as scheduled but may change based on conditions. Residents are advised to set carts out by 7 a.m. and report missed pickups via the city’s MyFW app or by calling 311.
Meals on Wheels Delivers Extra Supplies.
Meals on Wheels volunteers in Tarrant County are distributing extra shelf-stable meals to clients in case of disruptions, ensuring vulnerable residents are cared for during the storm.
Arlington on Standby.
Arlington’s trash contractor, Republic Services, is monitoring weather developments and will decide on service changes by late January 8. Residents should stay updated via the city’s social media channels or the CodeRED notification system.
Keller and Southlake Alert Systems.
Keller and Southlake, both served by Community Waste Disposal, have not announced changes but encourage residents to sign up for alerts directly from the company.
White Settlement Courts and Trash Delays.
White Settlement has rescheduled all January 9 court dates and advised that trash pickup will begin early but may face delays. Missed collections will be handled the following day.
Saginaw Cautious but On Schedule.
Saginaw plans to proceed with normal trash and recycling services but warns delays or cancellations are possible. Residents are asked to avoid placing bulky items curbside.
