Tuesday night brought another tough chapter for the Western Hills Cougars boys soccer team.
Hosting Southwest in district play, the Cougars were looking to snap a three-game skid and gain ground in the standings. Entering the match 5-9 overall and 2-4 in district, Western Hills needed a spark.
Southwest struck early, taking a 1-0 lead that held through halftime. The Cougars kept it close in the opening half and gave themselves a chance, but the second half shifted the tone. Western Hills found the net once, yet the Raiders responded with two goals of their own to seal a 3-1 result.
The loss moves the Cougars to 5-10 on the season and 2-5 in district play, currently sixth in the standings. They return to their home field tonight for another district matchup against the Young Menโs Leadership Academy, with an opportunity to reset and regroup in front of their supporters.
For a team still fighting in district play, the next match offers a fresh start and a chance to change the momentum.
