After a tough start to the week that included a road loss to rival Western Hills, the Benbrook Bobcats boys soccer team needed a response. Friday night delivered exactly that.
Facing an Eastern Hills squad sitting atop the district standings and unbeaten in district play, the Bobcats stepped onto the field ready to reset the narrative.
From the opening whistle, the Bobcats matched the Highlanders stride for stride, staying tight defensively and holding their own in a fast, physical match.
The game stayed even until late in the first half, when a brief defensive lapse allowed Eastern Hills to strike first and take a 1-0 lead into the break. That moment could have shifted the night. Instead, it fueled the Bobcats.
The Highlanders extended the lead early in the second half, but Benbrook answered with urgency and composure, storming back to level the match at 2 to 2 as the crowd swelled and the pace intensified. Ninety minutes were not enough, sending both teams to a shootout under the lights.
With a packed sideline watching, the Bobcats held their nerve, converting four shots to Eastern Hillsโ three to secure the win. The result marked the Bobcats’amaz fifth straight victory over the Highlanders and one of the most resilient performances of the season.
Benbrook now stands at 7-8 overall, 2-2 in district play, and sits fifth in the district standings. The Bobcats return home Tuesday night at 8:00 pm to face Young Menโs Leadership Academy as district play continues to heat up.
