Western Hills Boys Soccer opened a three-match homestand on February 17 against Southwest, and the week told a bigger story than just goals and final scores.

The JV squad continued its perfect district run with a 3-0 win, improving to 10-4 overall and 6-0 in district play.

Team captain Victor Lewis set the tone with a goal off a corner kick. Goalkeeper Manuel Velazco preserved the shutout. Alex Alvarez added two goals, including a late finish assisted by Lewis, to seal the night. The win handed Southwest its first district loss and kept JV firmly in control of its season.

Varsity faced a tougher result but showed resolve. After trailing 1 to 0 at halftime, the Cougars kept pressing despite conceding a second goal. With five minutes remaining, Western Hills pulled within one to make it 2-1. A late push left them exposed, and the final ended 3-1.

Omar Banda and Jacob Gutierrez anchored the back line, while Stiven Gonzรกlez Dรญaz provided a spark up top in his return from injury. Varsity now stands at 6-9 overall and 2-5 in district play.

The programโ€™s effort is not limited to the pitch. Across 52 players, the team posted a 92 percent overall passing rate at the end of the fourth six weeks.

Varsity achieved a 100 percent passing rate, with Elian Herrera, Jessie Rangel, and Ricardo Tellez earning AB Honor Roll recognition. JV recorded a 95 percent passing rate, with Gavin Branch and Sebastian Iriarte Mendoza named to the AB Honor Roll.

For Benbrook families, it is a reminder that Cougar soccer is building more than a record. It is shaping student athletes who compete hard, support one another, and handle their work when the final whistle blows.
