Bobcat Hoops Finish Runner-Up After Strong Godley Tournament Run.

The Benbrook Bobcats closed out an impressive week at the Godley Kia Basketball Tournament with a second place finish after falling to the Eagle Mountain Knights in the championship game.

Benbrook entered the title matchup riding a three game tournament winning streak and looked locked in early.

The first quarter was a tight, back and forth battle with the Bobcats trailing the Knights by two, 10-12.

Momentum shifted in the second quarter as Eagle Mountain went on a 9-0 scoring run that forced Coach Mendez to call a timeout for his Bobcats to regroup. After the timeout, senior guard Brennan Barton kept the Bobcats within reach by scoring all 11 of the team’s second quarter points, sending Benbrook into halftime down by eight, 21-28.

Coming out of half, the Knights took control after the Bobcats total turnovers soared to 10 turnovers minutes into the 3rd quarter, and 12 total turnovers on the night.

Turnovers and cold shooting stalled the Bobcats offense, while Eagle Mountain continued to find success from the perimeter. Bobcats trailed 40-24 heading into the fourth quarter and was unable to mount a comeback on a 2–11 shooting performance from the field in the fourth quarter, dropping the championship game 48-30.

Barton led all Bobcats with 18 points, shouldering much of the scoring load throughout the night. Despite the loss, Benbrook finished the tournament 3-1, extended its recent surge of strong play, and walked away with momentum heading into district action.

The Bobcats now sit at 8-6 on the season and will regroup before hitting the road to face Venus on Tuesday. With district play approaching, this tournament run showed that Benbrook has the pieces to be a possible district contender.
