The Benbrook Bobcats went into the Brock Classic knowing the field would push them, and the weekend delivered exactly that. They opened strong with a 53-40 win over Godley, setting the tone for a competitive run.
Things toughened quickly in game two as Benbrook squared off against Martins Mill, last year’s state champs. The Bobcats put up 32, but Martins Mill showed why they own that title, rolling to 62 points and handing Benbrook their first loss of the tournament.
There was no time to regroup before taking on Ponder, and the matchup turned into one of the closest fights of the weekend. The Bobcats battled wire to wire but came up just short, dropping a tight 46-44 finish.
Benbrook closed things out, determined to avoid a third straight loss. Facing Springtown, the Bobcats dug in, leaned on defense, and found enough rhythm to secure a 40-36 win. They wrapped the tournament at 2-2 and now sit at 5-4 on the season.
The Bobcats are back home on Tuesday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. to face Cleburne.
