Early Wednesday morning, thick smoke curled into the sky above Benbrook Lake as a massive fire tore through a luxury home on Sanctuary Heights Road. The blaze, possibly sparked by a lightning strike during a passing storm, left behind charred rubble where a 10,000-square-foot home once stood.
Just after 8 a.m., fire crews from Fort Worth rushed to the scene, finding flames ripping through the roof and gas lines fueling the inferno. The home, tucked near the edge of Pecan Valley Golf Course, was already fully involved by the time firefighters arrived.
As the fire intensified, responders called for backup, triggering second and third alarms to bring in more help. A dangerous roof collapse forced crews to pull back, regroup, and reenter cautiously. At one point, a firefighter fell through an elevator shaft, prompting a Mayday alert. Fortunately, his team quickly located and pulled him to safety.
It took nearly two hours and involved nearly 90 firefighters to bring the blaze under control finally. One firefighter was injured, but all residents inside escaped unharmed.
While the official cause is still under investigation, this fire serves as a powerful reminder to Benbrook residents: storm season can turn deadly in an instant.
Nowโs a good time to revisit your emergency plans and double-check your lightning safety systems.
