Data Center Rules Delayed as Fort Worth Zoning Commission Seeks Stronger Protections.

โ€ข

The debate over data center development in Fort Worth took another turn this week as the city’s Zoning Commission declined to advance proposed regulations to the City Council, a move local advocates say gives the city an opportunity to craft stronger safeguards.

Krista Erbe, founder of the 2871 Community Coalition, said the proposed regulations did not go far enough and lacked sufficient research and community input. Rather than recommend the ordinance for approval, the commission voted to send city staff back to the drawing board.

Erbe also praised the commission for allowing every resident who signed up to speak during the meeting to address the issue. Public testimony lasted more than two hours, far exceeding the commission’s typical seven-minute limit for opposition speakers.

While calling the decision a positive step, Erbe said she believes the city should now consider a development moratorium while more comprehensive regulations are developed.

Residents interested in following the issue or getting involved can learn more at 2871 Community Coalition or on the coalition’s Facebook page.
