Video: Floodplain Concerns Rise Along Timberline.

Benbrook residents are once again raising alarms over floodplain development, with longtime neighbor Greg Clem sharing a street-level view of what he says is a troubling change.

According to Clem, recent grading along Timberline has elevated the floodplain nearly five feet above the road, leaving water with fewer options for runoff.

In the past, rainfall would flow naturally into the floodplain. Now, Clem warns, it is more likely to pool on the roadway. The use of untested fill dirt on the back end of the property only adds to the risk, as the build-up appears much deeper there.

While a retaining wall may be added to contain future development, Clem believes the southern end of the floodplain has already been compromised, meaning excess water will still find its way onto Timberline.

The situation highlights ongoing tensions between growth and environmental safety in South Benbrook. Residents argue that changes to the floodplain not only alter natural drainage but could lead to more dangerous street flooding in heavy storms.

With questions about accountability and oversight still unanswered, neighbors are watching closely to see whether city leaders and developers will address these concerns before the next downpour.
