Tracing the Layers of Benbrook’s Past At a Corner of Change.

What now buzzes with plans for a new 7 Brew Coffee shop once sat quiet and still.

The northeast corner of Sproles Drive and US HWY 377 S has lived many lives, and thanks to a recently surfaced photo, longtime Benbrook residents are piecing together its timeline like a neighborhood jigsaw puzzle.

Before coffee, there was Valero. Before Valero, Diamond Shamrock. And before that? Just a patch of Texas dirt and brush. Locals recall riding horses across the lot in the mid-1970s, long before pavement and fuel pumps were ever installed.

While memories vary, a consensus is forming. The vehicles in the photo offer solid clues: a Dodge minivan, a Ford Tempo, and what appears to be a mid-80s Toyota suggest the image was captured sometime between 1984 and 1987. Property records confirm this, noting development around 1986.

Residents who moved to Benbrook in the 1970s recall a vacant corner and only a few nearby structures. By the time the 1980s rolled in, the car wash had come and gone, gas stations had taken root, and traffic at the intersection had picked up.

As another chapter gets ready to brew, this familiar corner stands as more than just a spot on the map. It’s a marker of time, growth, and a town that remembers where it came from.
